After completing his degrees in Photography and Microbiology at S.I.U., Thom returned to Chicago, worked in Advertising and raced Sailboats on the Great Lakes. Eventually moving to Seattle establishing himself there, while still shooting Nationally. Work and family took him to the S.F. Bay area, now returning to the Chicagoland Area.
One of the early adopters of Digital Photography, Thom was contracted to open a Digital "in house" Photo Department for a Major Publisher in the mid 90's. When that project was over he returned to full-time freelance photography and teaching, always willing to share his vision and knowledge at several Universities.
Thom's love of the water led him to get his USCG Captain's license. Thom is an avid Abalone diver, sailor and skier. He has been a Manager of photo studios, run a Children’s clothing store and factory, renovated houses and at the age of 16, he rebuilt a 65 Chevy Malibu. All of his many interests gives him a unique perspective, to the world he captures. He can make anybody feel comfortable in front of the camera because he has had so many experiences.
